Giorgio Finella — candidate for vice-chair (campaigns)

Personal statement by Giorgio Finella, standing for election as vice-chair (campaigns) of Hove Constituency Labour Party at its annual general meeting at Ralli Hall, 81 Denmark Villas, Hove BN3 3TH, at 11am on Sunday, February 5.

Giorgio says:

“We have more in common than divides us.

“I believe we need to come together and unite as one party.

“I have been a lifelong Labour supporter and have rejoined the Labour Party when Jeremy Corbyn was elected in 2015. I support the Labour leader and his 10 pledges.

“I studied at Brighton university between 1991–95 and moved back to Hove in 2003.

“I have worked in Local Government and at the Greater London Authority in a research capacity bring evidence based decision making to policy development in local, regions and national fora.

“I want to return a Labour government to power in 2020.

“I will do whatever it take to make this statement a reality.

“I believe we need a strong constituency party and our campaigns need a short strappy hook based on evidence.

“Examples such as ‘NHS £984 million cuts’ as example of what it really means locally.

“We can go into detail but the messages must be short, clear and memorable.

“I believe in bringing national policy to local areas needs to show what it means here in Hove and Portslade.

“I will look to produce a local Hove and Portslade campaign strategy with a timetable of events between now and the 2020 election.

“We’ve got to be seen out challenging issues like the NHS, Social Care, Education, Housing and the failed anti austerity approach of the current government.

“I will provide a transparent and inclusive approach to local and national campaign support utilising the amazing skills and experiences of our local members throughout our local Labour Party.

“If elected I will prepare local briefings of national messages to share on the doorstep and whilst canvassing showing, that we, the local Labour Party understand local issues and the alternative approaches we need to take to address these.”
