Amanda Evans — candidate for treasurer

Personal statement by Amanda Evans, standing for election as treasurer of Brighton Pavilion Constituency Labour Party at its annual general meeting at the Brighthelm Centre, North Road, Brighton BN1 1YD at 10.30am on Saturday, February 4.

Amanda says:

“I am standing for election as Treasurer in Pavilion CLP as I am excited by the challenges of the new structure of the party within our city, and want to be part of shaping Pavilion’s future, working with others to raise funds and awareness for local and national campaigns, and to grow our vibrant membership to ever greater numbers of active, involved party workers.

“I have been politically engaged all my life, am a socialist and Unite member, and have years of experience of activism including in the anti-racism and anti-nuclear movements. I re-joined Labour last year to support the party and its leadership in any way I can to get rid of this cruelest of governments and replace it with a Labour one committed to defending the NHS and other public services, and acting to improve working rights and the currently grotesque levels of poverty, homelessness and inequality.

“I believe I have the skills needed to fill the role of Treasurer, gained from many years as a director of a public relations and event management company in London, with billings running into seven figures, and my work over the last decade in fundraising and retail for a national charity. Overall I have a strong understanding both of the techniques involved in accurate and responsible accounting and the sensitive legal issues around funding and donations.

“If elected, I would plan to work closely with other CLP and Branch officers on campaigns and fundraising events that would be financially beneficial to the party locally, as well as helping to mobilise and enthuse our membership to become the effective election fighting force we all need to put Labour back in government: for the many, not the few.”

• Strong track record of financial management and reporting.
• Committed to socialism and Corbyn’s 10 pledges for a fairer, kinder, more equal Britain.
• Experienced campaign activist, fundraiser and event organizer.
• Let’s fight for our public services, and convince the electorate that only Labour can save them.

Pro-Corbyn. Elected secretary of Brighton, Hove and District Labour Party; votes annulled by NEC; suspended Oct 2016; re-instated Feb 2019. Ex-Fleet Street.
